Michel Gondry (Perancis: [miʃɛl ɡɔ̃dʁi]; lahir 8 May 1963) ialah seorang pengarah, penerbit dan penulis lakon layar filem dari Perancis

Beliau turut dikenali dalam penglibatan video muzik beberapa artis tertentu seperti Daft Punk, Donald Fagen, Radiohead, Björk, Beck, The Chemical Brothers dan The White Stripes.

Biografi

Awal hidup

Datuknya Constant Martin terkenal sebagai pencipta sebuah model awal alat muzik berupa synthesizer bernama clavioline pada tahun 1947. Ayahnya seorang juruelektrik serta pemain piano dan organ amatur, abangnya pula menceburi sebuah kugiran (Ludwig von 88) serta perniagaan membuat logo dan baju T untuk kugiran muzik rock dan rap.[1][2]

Kerjaya perfileman awal

Semasa beliau bersekolah di Olivier-de-Serres, beliau memasuki sebuah kugiran bernama Oui Oui pada 1980 sebagai seorang pemain dram. Dalam kugiran inilah beliau mula membikin video muzik untuk beberapa lagu single mereka. Beliau turut terlibat dalam beberapa projek animasi televiyen seperti Les Triplés (1986)[3] dan Rahan, fils des âges farouches (1987)[4] sebagai seorang pereka watak.

Tersiarnya salah satu video muzik Oui Oui, La Ville, dalam MTV menarik perhatian Björk, seorang penyanyi dari Iceland untuk berkolaborasi dengan Gondry; video pertama mereka Human Behaviour muncul pada 1993 sebelum mereka melakukan beberapa projek lain yang berterusan terasuk "Army Of me", "Isobel", "Hyperballad", "Joga", "Bachelorette", "Declare Independence" dan "Crystalline"[5].

Pada 2004, beliau terlibat mengarahkan filem Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind dibintangi Jim Carrey dan Kate Winslet. Filem tersebut memenangi Anugerah Akademi untuk Lakon Layar Asal Terbaik pada acara anugerah tersebut yang ke-77[6].

Teknik perfileman

Beliau mempelopori efek khas bullet time yang menjadi terkenal dalam filem The Matrix dalam pembikinannya untuk beberapa iklan untuk jenama vodka Smirnoff[7] serta jenama pakaian GAP.[8][9]
