History

Central Coast Media Education Foundation founded KPCR-LP in 2019. The station's inception aimed to carry the mission of Pirate Cat Radio and provide a platform for local artists, musicians, and community members to share their talents and voices. Originally based in Santa Cruz, KPCR-LP moved to Los Gatos in December of 2023. The move allowed the station to expand its reach and engage with a broader audience while remaining committed to its roots in grassroots media and community activism.[4][1]

The station's schedule includes music shows, talk shows, and news segments, offering something for everyone in the community. Popular shows include "i want you to know" and Drinks with Tony, which have garnered a loyal following among listeners.[5]

The station actively promotes local talent and often hosts live performances and interviews with musicians, artists, and community leaders. This commitment to highlighting local voices has made KPCR an integral part of the cultural fabric of the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas.[1]

Mission and Advocacy

KPCR-LP is not just a radio station; it's a platform for advocacy and social change. The station's mission is to provide an alternative voice in the media landscape, challenging mainstream narratives and amplifying marginalized voices. KPCR is committed to promoting social justice, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment. Through its programming, the station addresses issues such as inequality, racism, environmental degradation, and political corruption. By giving a voice to those often ignored or silenced by traditional media, KPCR seeks to inspire action and foster positive change in the community.[1]

Daniel Roberts

His passion for grassroots media and community engagement laid the foundation for KPCR's mission to provide an alternative voice in the media landscape. While Roberts' contributions are significant, KPCR-LP has since grown into a collective effort, with contributions from volunteers, staff, and community members.[1]
